Losing a rigged game

Kerry Spackman described a bet with paddling champion in the “Winner’s Bible.” Everyone laughed at his audacity, but unbeknown to his opponent and everyone else, he adjusted his rudder in the competition and won the bet. Despite his opponent’s superior strength and physique, he could not overcome the drift of the boat away from the goal line and Dr. Spackman won the race.

The insight he wanted to communicate was this biased bet was straightforward: when we are conflicted about our goals we get subpar results—the drift in the paddling competition. The spiritual quest is going after the most interfering force of all, the psychological identification with an entity.

Remove “me, myself and I” and wonderful things are bound to happen. You are currently participating in a rigged game and lose even when you feel you are winning.
