Don’t suppress what wants to be expressed

“Don’t be emotional!”—we may hear that from a boss or a friend or may even tell that to ourselves in times when we get triggered. It’s the notion of a run-away feeling that isn’t advantageous for us if we continue on this track. Do we have the willpower to stop it? Is it even a good thing to have a stoic mindset and effectively suppress what wants to be expressed?

If emotions are feelings that run away from “you” what then is the “Awareness is” state? Is it a state where no thoughts and feelings are present at all? We may say in the “Awareness is” state there are no thoughts and feelings present that define the “you” or as J. Krishnamurti coined it, the absence of psychological thought.

Can we define mindfulness as the ability to track thought and feeling for the psychological identification just as most others track their emotional state? Who is that entity who does the tracking? Life happens as is for a reason. Emotional outbursts are there to point to healing opportunities just as psychological identification shows us what life aspects we are attached to.

The state of “Awareness is” finds us, we cannot reach for it. Nisargadatta Maharaj allegedly spent three years in a “I am That” mindset until it clicked for him and the transition was complete. My own practice is to enjoy the “Awareness is” state when it is present and practice mindfulness when psychological mind returns in the same way as others watch their emotions.

Don’t suppress what needs to be expressed! We attracted it in our life for a good reason. What are “you” attached to and why? Do you perceive the “Awareness is” dimension nearby?
