The journey of self-discovery
ends with the discovery that there is no self.
Wu Hsin
There are really two distinct phases in the spiritual quest. One, a journey of empowerment and becoming pure, and two, to watch the sense of self—even the ethical and potent parts—dissolve altogether. How to get the last feat done exactly is hard—if not impossible—to teach, but we all can work on the first part and see if there is anything we can learn about the role the self identity plays, and how to step out of it.
The three dimensions we can work on: being ethical and empowering and being mindful moment by moment. I figure that we cannot self-improve ourselves into heaven, but we can keep ourselves out of self-imposed hell by trying again a bit better today. And if you manage to watch yourself as you try, you have gotten to the stage that is all one can do.
