The problem with the silent witness

There is something very powerful about Ramana Maharshi’s self inquiry method. The subject is always in question. In being there is no subject and no object. Oneness reigns and higher energies are calling the shots. There is no one around to think and act.

Have you observed that in true listening there is no listener, just listening? Or take sex, have you observed that when both partners really meet there is only love and both parties disappear in the act? In Oneness there is no subject to speak of, just being. 

When spiritual teachers say, “you are the one listening to your thoughts,” they empower the spiritual entity who feels in control to separate the wheat from the chaff as the Old Testament would say. The silent witness may strengthen the individual!

In Ramana Maharshi’s self inquiry we start asking questions when a doer or a thinker appears. The aim of these exercises is not to receive an answer, their aim is to dissolve the questioner until Oneness reigns.
