Symbols of Darkness

Perhaps we can think of our spiritual journey as a path of least resistance. How much energy is wasted if you fight a desire inside yourself because it contradicts the notion you have about your higher self. Giving in and becoming inconsiderate of others is not a solution as the guilt will eat you afterwards, but sitting in your room and banging your head against the wall and saying "I must not be greedy, lustful, or ambitious" is a big waste of energy as well. How about the following compromise: you choose yourself a "symbol of darkness" and acknowledge the urge inside yourself without fighting or pursuing it. The second alternative is to redirect the dark energy into something holier. Marriage is a good example in this direction. You use your sexual union with your partner as a symbol for your soul merger.

The Course of Miracles states "If you find resistance strong and dedication weak, you are not ready. Do not fight yourself". If you are in such a state, neutralize the conflict. When you are ready to advance to the next level, you will receive a sign to drop your symbol. May peace be with you!
