It was during the cold and dark days of the winter and his mother reminded him to feed the birds. With all the stress at work and the demands of his small kids he forgot all about it until one fine day when he came out of the garage he heard a bird. He could have sworn that this bird reminded him of his duties, so he promised himself that this time he wouldn't forget. After work that day he went to three grocery stores until he finally found bird seeds and next morning he put it out. Birds, as well as squirrels had field days for a long time and with the spring around the corner he soon forgot all about it.
With spring another seasonal headache came, carpenter bees. He had spread chemicals last year like crazy to get rid of this pest once and for all, and it had made a visible dent in their population. Still, a few more had to be fought off and with some more chemicals he could finally proceed with the project he had postponed for so long, to paint the exterior of the house and to repair the damaged wood work. As the project was long finished, well into the summer, his heart sang. One last carpenter bee showed up to check on the presumably dead eggs. Still, prudence would suggest to spray the area again after all the power washing and painting. He went to bed grumpy at this thought, but when he stepped out the next morning he found the carpenter bee on the floor, completely ripped apart by something. As he looked at the remains of the bee he suddenly became aware of a bird singing in the background. He could have sworn it was the same one he remembered hearing during the cold winter days. What are the odds he thought to himself? 'Well', he said to himself smilingly, 'God's ways are mysterious as they say'.
