The concept of time consistency is very simple and intuitive. Say you decide in the morning not to drink alcohol because you are sick and tired of the hangover experience, but then when the evening approaches and you just want to forget about your miserable work day, you end up going for the liquor cabinet and you have forgotten all about your good intentions. The concept of time consistency is about ensuring that you somehow find a way -credible that is- that ensures it is in your best interest to resist the temptation to go for the drink even as evening approaches.
You might remember how Holmer - the Greek version that is - dealt with the irresistible sirens: he let others tie him up to the mast of the boat and put wax into the ears of the sailors. That way he could enjoy, or rather be ripped apart, by their spectacle, while the sailors could proceed along their journey. Well, that's one way of dealing with time consistency, another is family.
I remember a statement by one of my spiritual guides who said to me once that my career would take off if I had a baby boy in a particular stage of my life. What a strange concept, I thought to myself, why should the gender of my child have anything to do with my work? Well, little did I know then about the spiritual world of soul connections. We are all signing up for roles that we play in our life time. We forget all about it as we are born, but life, family and friends gently remind us of our mission. I had read about this concept before and it dawned on me when I got married, but it only became really clear to me when my two children were born.
Perhaps only parent will understand this idea, but you suddenly just feel that there is a soul that has supposedly been given to you to take care of, but really, this soul ends up transforming you instead. And to go back to the concept of time consistency, you end up doing things that you would never be able to tackle without them. As they say, there ain't no mountain high enough to keep you from doing whatever necessary to raise your child. And if you have to face the sirens and no robe at hand, just keep a photo of your child in front of you and no temptation in the world will get the better of you.
