Facing Up to Your Demon

I read an interesting book by Kim-Anne Jannes Das Ich als Lehrer des Lebens which made the point that you can visualize, talk to and even use the strength of your personal demon for your spiritual journey. I got curious when I discovered that her demon looked pretty similar to the one I discovered in a recent dream, (see  http://zeitgeistinma.blogspot.com/2011/01/releasing-nightmare.html). Her demon had wings as well and over time he actually transformed from an ugly monster to a beautiful dragon who defended her in the real world against evil. I do not have the psychic skills to consciously communicate with my demon and quite frankly lack the interest as well. What I have done, however, is to recognize and acknowledge the destructive force inside myself.

There are some who believe that you should appeal to your True Self, a guru, the Christ, etc. and that you should suppress your demon or shadow in the process. Like Kim-Anne I have discovered for myself that you can harness the power of your dark side if you are willing to embrace it and you will always find a creative way to channel that force into a new direction consistent with you spiritual path. Explore your creativity but watch out as well, the dark force will take you for a ride until you have figured it out how to deal with it. Kim-Anne suggested that you should have it hand over its symbol of power to you. Well, good luck and may your demon change into a beautiful dragon as well.
