Peace

You perhaps know the Christian blessing 'May peace be with you!'Surely you must remember times when you felt absolutely peaceful. This feeling is bliss. Without stimulus the system rests and has no inclination to gravitate towards anything. You also know the opposite feeling,  the state of restlessness, the fidgeting, the desire to be somewhere where you are presently not. I felt restless this morning and as my mind wandered towards one of my ego gratifications, there are so many, I am sure you have some of your own, I felt peace. Amazing, I thought to myself, we are restless and our mind jumps to our fantasy world and for a brief moment we feel peace. Well, I am sure it has dawned on you as well by now that no ego driven activity ever gets you anywhere, unless perhaps, driving you further away from home. So what can we do instead? Try to be mindful of the fact that you are restless and observe how your mind immediately clings to something. Perhaps, as you understand the futility of this movement there is an understanding of the problem. At that moment you have a chance to be truly peaceful. As it is written, 'Be still and know God'!
