When the Ego Fades into Nothingness

You can observe the ego in action but you have to accept it for what it is. Only by observing what it is going on inside of you, by understanding where it is coming from and appreciating who you are do you have a shot at transcending it.

The Ego always wants to be special and everyone wants to be better in one way or another. You can't change this drive; you can certainly negate it, but then the repressed part will catch up with you eventually. What you can do, however, you can see how the ego is creating  suffering for yourself and others. With that understanding comes true transformation.

Every time you want to be better than others you deviate from the Tao already.  Before we walked the Tao, we wanted to be better than others in education, finance, status or appearances. Now that we walk the Tao we still catch ourselves from time to time when we want to be better in healing, more advanced in meditation or simply happier or wiser than others. The ego is smart that way. It is ok to be deceived from time to time. The Tao has powerful messengers who remind you to reconnect with the Way all the time.

Just as you can observe your own drive to be better than others, you can also observe how everyone is out to help you. This is a beautiful insight. We both thought we had enemies before walking the path, whereas today we have some friends who talk to us more lovingly and some friends who are a little rough around the edges. Along the Tao
everyone is rooting for our soul advancement. This is not just spiritual talk; this is very real and you can observe it for yourself at home as well as when you are at work.

God created everyone equal and along the Way you can see that clearly no matter how much money, how much power or how famous someone is. When you have the awareness to look behind the screen of appearances you have transcended the ego. Zoom into the Way and your ego fades into nothingness.
