You are the Tao

Well you only need the light when it's burning low.
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow.
Only know you love her when you let her go.

Only know you've been high when you're feeling low.
Only hate the road when you’re missin' home.
Only know you love her when you let her go.
(Passenger, Let Her Go)

Walking the Tao is the study of yin and yang. You experience the high and the low, the good as well as the bad, the exuberant as well as the subdued. Walking the Tao is to realize that everything matters, yet nothing does. One day you appreciate kindness and compassion, while another day you realize that brutal straight-forwardness has its merits on occasions too. Old and young, beautiful and ugly - being a Tao traveler is the awareness that you are part of everything, yet beyond everything at the same time.

Kurt Tepperwein once described enlightenment in the following way. You are walking in a beautiful garden, you stop to smell the roses and then it suddenly occurs to you that you are "there" and that as a matter of fact you have always been "there". So just keep on doing what you have been doing, but be mindful of everything. Once you start walking the Tao, one fine day it will occur to you that you are the Tao and from that blessed point on you are free.
