Transcending our Nature

Released from greed, fear, anger,
absorbed in Me and made pure
by the practice of wisdom,
many have attained my state of being.
(Lord Krishna, Bhagavad Gita)

You are out of tune with your Self when you are mad at someone, when you are afraid of something, and when you are running after things that you think you don't have. All of us experience these sentiments; we can't wish away how we feel. Yet, we can be mindful of what's going on inside. We can also make attempts to lean against our nature. We can stand up to our fears, we can accept some negative stuff in your life even though we would rather live without it, and we can transmute greed into productive outlets.

A spiritual path is designed to re-establish the soul-connection Lord Krishna refers to. If we learn along the Way that everyone is a mirror of sorts, how can we be angry at anyone? When we learn that every experience along the Way is designed to bring us Home, how can we be afraid of anything? And once we realize that all our authentic needs are always fulfilled, what is there to run after?

Walking a spiritual path is to understand that the voice in our head can be off, just as the feeling in our belly can be misleading. There is only one holy institution that can be trusted, the knowledge that Lord Krishna walks beside us when we face life to the best of our abilities. Show up in life and you have a shot to discover your true Self. Anger, fear and greed may be part of us our nature, but they are nothing but transient feelings as we rise to life's occasion. Honor your path and look forward to what is coming your Way today. Life is here to show you who you truly are.
