Transcending the Pain

She came into her life when she needed it most. She offered Her help with nothing but Her presence and a pure heart. The spiritual aspirant was slow to accept Her help. She had never come across someone like Her.

Persistently, She encouraged her to start a conversation. Slowly but surely an amazing spiritual journey started. Maa-guru looks otherworldly.  While objectively She lives in this world, She apparently doesn’t belong here. She is free from the society and the rules.  When the aspirant asked Her how She had started Her spiritual journey, her story appeared as unusual as her.

Our aspirant tried her best to learn but it was a long road. Maa-guru kept on saying we need to observe ourselves just like watching a movie. We observe ourselves without judgement and attachment.  Let "stuff" happens as it does just like the movie run by itself.  You won't run to the screen and shout that this shouldn't happen this way!

Hard as she tried, she couldn't quite live the wisdom Maa-guru had proposed. One day she hit a low when someone hurt her badly. Hard as it is to believe, our aspirant cried for 9 consecutive days. On the ninth day, Maa-guru's words came to her; she concluded, “Since I cannot do anything about this pain, why don’t I sit down and just take a look of it.”  She found a quiet corner and focused; her eyes were closed, and her heart was still in pain. When she recalled the hurtful incident she suddenly experienced a burst of negative emotions. Tears rolled down her face with the force of a river. Despite the pain she decided to take a closer look. Suddenly, magic happened.  With this intensive focus and presence, her tears dried up and the pain disappeared. Incredibly, joy and love started flowing through her. Her face became all smiles and an insight struck her: she suddenly understood why she was in distress. She was looking for love from someone who was unable to give it.  She desperately needed love.  However, with this intensive presence of her pain, it seemed that she gave herself plenty of love, and with it, incredible love came pouring out of her. For the first time she experienced this unconditional love and transformation power just inside herself; also, for the first time, she realized, she is able to love people unconditionally!  With this realization, suddenly, her life was full of joy!
