Will: The Steering Wheel on our Journey Home

I found this image below helpful in depicting our spiritual journey. The outer ring that contains our spirit and psychological being is the body; the inner ring consists of intellect, emotions, with our will steering us in the desired direction. The Self is at the core of our being. The only missing part in this image is the Tao, the outside that connects us with the God's creation.

So what autonomy do we have with our will? Well, the will is our steering wheel on the road to or away from God. Most of us have an earthly mission to fulfill but somewhere half-way through it, the spiritual dimension of our journey opens up. That is the time when we actively steer towards  God. It is hardly a straight line. Life isn't quite as simple as all the self-help books and New Age messages make it to be. There are demons hiding beneath the surface that need to be brought to the surface and there is often unfinished earthly business that we somehow still have to get done. So somehow in all that soul searching we have to find the magic that works for us personally and makes us unique. We steer the wheel and monitor the feelings, thoughts, the hints from the quiet Voice inside as well as receiving the feedback of the Way. It can be a bit confusing initially, frustrating at times, but soon it dawns on us that this journey is really a child's play.

Life and your path are designed to guide you Home. Along the Way there are opportunities to vent and to love; to dance and to pause, to stroll and to run. The Way knows best what feeling, what thought and what situation is best designed to bring you Home. Just keep going. As the Course in Miracles states, "if you knew who walks besides you on the way that you have chosen, fear would be impossible." At one point you just let the wheel going and realize that you are on auto-pilot on your road Home. So just keep going on your path less traveled and you can't help reaching your holy destination.
