Courage and Determination

Why do we suffer?  If we really observe ourselves, we will discover that our suffering is less about the situation we are in and more about our response to it. How many of us drag ourselves to work? How often do we complain about our kids, or the chores that need to be done. How many of us feel bitter about our failing health? And how many of us feel upset about our worn-out face, and the fact that we are out of shape?

Whenever we resist our current situation, instead of using all our energy to face it, we waste our energy to complain about it. Our bitterness arises from the lack of energy that we have used up wearing ourselves down in the process. May we all have the courage and strength to face all of life's situations and experience life as it is. And may we have the determination to see it through without undermining ourselves in the process.
