The Road Towards Freedom

Many times I tried to tell you,
many times I cried alone.
Always I'm surprised how well you cut my feelings to the bone.
Don't want to leave you really,
I've invested too much time, to give you up that easy;
to the doubts that complicate your mind.
We belong to the light, we belong to the thunder.
We belong to the sound of the words we've both fallen under.
Whatever we deny or embrace, for worse or for better,
we belong, we belong, we belong together
.
(Pat Benatar, We Belong)

There is a time when we take a step consciously with GOD, and there is a time when we are on emotional autopilot, blindly following our nature. We think we have a choice, but it is an illusion. We are simply responding like an auto-pilot to the yin and yang of our past and the environment we are operating in.

"Righteous living" gives us a choice. Every step along the WAY calms our system, and gives us the conscious choice to decide with GOD the next step as well. But it is naive to think that will-power alone can keep us in that state all the time. No, like a spiral we oscillate towards freedom, just like an addiction is a steady descend into bondage.

I started out the note with the lyrics of Pat Benator's "We Belong", for that's exactly how I have experienced my spiritual path this far. Never ever does this FORCE turn away from us, but along every missed step we get encouraged to try harder next time around and to learn from the lessons of the prior missed opportunity. Once a spiritual path has started, freedom is the only possible outcome. Every step along the WAY begets the next one, just as every missed step increases the pain of separation. Once we have experienced HER sweet fragrance, why would we willingly let go?
