The Story of the I

The "I" is something we take for granted, yet it is a nothing but a story we tell ourselves. When I grew up I believed that everyone can perceive and understand this story just as I do, Nothing could be further from the truth. Not only are we all different and consequently perceive and understand life, others and ourselves very differently, but even we change our story-line all the time.

The story we telling defines how we perceive ourself, how we think we relate to others, and what we think happens to us. We think that we are fair, rational and understand what is going on, but we are fooling ourselves. Instead we are bounced around like a puppet by forces that we do not perceive, let alone understand.

"Self-improvement" can change the story-line but it doesn't change the fact that we still only telling a story; a better story perhaps, but still only a story. A spiritual path is the realization that it is not about us. We awaken to a FORCE higher than us. We are ready to flexibly dump our agenda based on the SIGNS we encounter along the WAY. Our mantra becomes "not I but THOU". We still perceive the story of our life, as told by the "I" but we are open to divine revisions moment by moment.

We lived an ego driven life before. We had agendas, things we were rooting for, people we liked hanging out with just as people we wanted to avoid. Today we don't mind either way as long as we travel the WAY. We considered ourselves as the creators of our destiny in the olden days whereas today we would not make this claim. Perhaps we are a co-authors of our story, but the divine script is written by someone else. We just want to awaken to the WAY, moment by moment.
