Is there a restlessness, a faithlessness, a suspicion, a selfishness that very much like the snake in the Garden of Eden wants to create spiritual havoc within us? Probably! We likely have conscious or subconscious drives that are in conflict with SPIRIT. We typically call this trouble-maker in Paradise 'ego'.
We can be aware of the 'ego' versus SPIRIT choice, and we can decide to be with GOD despite our urges and fears. The 'self' is not as bad as our spiritual community makes it to be. The reason why we can't give you a formula though on what is spiritually kosher and what is not, all of us have different Soul longings and aversions. Along a spiritual path we have to learn when the 'Soul' speaking, and when the ego is at work. Our spiritual mission is to line up self, Soul and SPIRIT.
When passion meets purpose, GOD is near-by. Find your avocation, fulfill your Soul obligations, burn a little greed and lust in the process, and you will be HOME before you know it. SPIRIT, Soul and self can want the same thing.
