Who’s in Charge?

You may be one of the many who tries to live your dreams. Good for you! That’s typically how a spiritual path starts; we are tired of all the disappointments and scars, so we actively reach for the light. Alas, then often comes a phase of disillusionment when we realize that despite all of our pushing and praying, the outcome is often different from what we envision. The comedian Mitch Hedberg was perhaps only half-joking when he said, ‘I am sick of following my dreams. I am just going to ask where they’re going and hook up later with them.’

The final stage of our spiritual journey is reached when we realize that we are not our story. Our true identity is born moment by moment; what we have to do is to consciously, as well as instinctively, put our stamp of approval on the moment at hand as we respond to it. Carl Bozeman coins this stage in the spiritual journey  with his motto, ‘Living the dream? No way, the dream is living me!’ So it is ‘no way’ to the story in our head, to our expectations and our righteous thinking. Instead it becomes, ‘yes Way’—our spiritual path is living through us.

Who is in charge? The Way is!

Thank you Christian! I've told you often how much I love your gentle expressions and this one again is no exception. You do have a way! Thanks also for the "mention." You have me gleaming.
