even though a shadow falls behind us.
Here we are searching for enlightenment,
even though our restlessness wants it.
Here we are maligning meat consumption,
even though animals kept our species going.
Here we are minding bodily pleasures,
even though we weren’t conceived by monks.
Don’t get me wrong,
you can keep appealing to God and His Son.
Don’t get me wrong,
you can keep meditating and purifying.
Don’t get me wrong,
you can keep searching for the light.
I no longer bother with 55 percent success.
I embrace humanity 100 percent.
I see the post of some of my spiritual friends and they nicely describe the ecstasy that I also have experienced. They point to the magnificent patterns that I have also come across which the ordinary eye fails to see. It’s fun to walk the Way but no one manages to be connected to this Force all the time. Many simply take a time-out for a couple of weeks and then come roaring back when the cosmic stars align once again. Don’t get me wrong, I used to do the same, but one day I simply asked myself, why should I enjoy life only 55 percent of the time?
You see, I am an author. I need to write daily, not just when the Angels whisper in my ear. While it is true that a spiritual path encourages us to remove our self-imposed interferences so that we steadily ratchet up our success ratio of staying connected, we may as well examine our human shortcomings in the down days. We can always find spiritual meaning even in the more mundane days. As it turns out, we can appreciate being human 100 percent of the time.
The Tao Te Ching doesn’t favor white over the black; its beauty lies in the circle, in the wholeness that transcends the duality of life. There is Heaven in earth and earth in Heaven. We can appreciate them both because they necessitate each other for as long as we walk the blue planet. Carl Jung says that no tree can reach Heaven without having its roots planted in hell. Well good then, enjoy humanity 100 percent.
