Day Maker

A hair-stylist flew business class and when a stern looking fellow-traveler asked him what he was doing professionally, he answered ‘Day-Maker’. The gentleman who had asked the question was confused about his answer and wanted to know what that was. The hair-stylist responded that it was an important function of this job was to make people’s days. Afterwards he was so proud of his newly minted title that he even put it on his business card.

Years later a woman came into his shop. She was a regular customer but she came in between her appointments so he figured that she must have had an important event to attend to. He could squeeze her in and they had lots of fun together talking and laughing. Days later he received a thank you note from her, telling him that she wanted to commit suicide that day but that his joyful energy made her reconsider to keep living instead.

I will be honest with you, when I started reading the somewhat long story in a spiritual community, I almost stopped reading at the ‘Day-Maker’ part as it seemed a bit over the top for me, but afterwards I realized that the hairstylist was so right. Not only did he make this woman’s day, he saved her life with his joyful nature and care for her. So to you light-workers out there, please understand that you are a ‘Day-Maker’ in so many people’s lives. Go out today and share your joy!
