Guts

Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway.
John Wayne

I made a career for myself in the investment business. I started out as a supporting staff to the investment business, but as the years went by, I got ever more involved. Actually, I  couldn’t even say that I enjoyed my work, I hated shaking in my boots when my call was on the line, but I always felt deep in my heart that it was the right thing to do. My true heroes were on the  investment side, and I wanted to help them as best as I could.

Erich Fromm in ‘Escape from Freedom’ argued that true evil was in the bureaucracy of Nazi Germany. The willing lieutenants who executed all orders willingly, not daring to stand up for what’s right. I saw that behavior too in business. People who actually were quite capable and also knew what was the right thing to do, but they didn’t dare to stand up for themselves when it mattered, so they went for convenience and ‘safety’ instead.

People are the same everywhere. I have met great souls in the spiritual community and look up to them. Hopefully, I am able to follow in their boot-steps. Yet, I have also met the folks who ‘talk the talk but don’t walk the walk’. It’s not a big deal actually, as long as they understand that spirituality is just a  a pleasant hobby for them. Chances are some day life will pull them right into the vortex as well. That’s what happened to me.

A spiritual transformation is a full contact sport. For anyone who is on a transformative journey, life will grab you by the horns anyway, so stop delaying the inevitable. ‘Boldness has genius, power and magic in it’, Goethe once rightly observed. The nice thing about a spiritual journey, the mind loses its grip, the heart comes to the fore and the gut gets strengthened as kundalini energy rises. When life invites us, let’s hope we dance.
