''When you become present, your mind is silent. There is no agenda. You are not holding onto anything. You are not seeking anything. You are just here with what is, and it is enough.'' (Leonard Jacobson)
At my old job I had the pleasure to organize quarterly investment discussions in our group. Everyone had a particular view of the world and wanted it heard. The views often conflicted each other. There were heated arguments, there was open hostility and there was passive aggressive behavior. While all group members were not exactly friends, there was always enough trust and good-will that at the end of the process everyone always made their best effort to make the overall presentation to the firm a successful one.
I was the leader of the process over many years and I quickly learned that seeking compromises didn’t help anyone. No, instead I forced a collision of the opposing views just like in a game of chicken. I used the power of deadlines to force out the essence of the argument in literally the last minute. Amazingly, someone always caved in the end and the group rallied around the last view point standing when they put the presentation together. I also had my own agenda going into these discussion but I was ready to drop it like everyone for the trusted the wisdom of the ‘creative moment’.
Next time when you talk to someone just tune into the energy of the moment. The Bible says, ‘Whenever two or more are gathered in My Name, there I will be among them’. That’s the description of the prevailing Holy Spirit. I work with clients and help them with with their problems and I never fear that I have nothing to say. It is not me who is giving advice, it’s the Holy Spirit that goes the healing and the talking. Besides, I don’t consider myself a teacher in the process either. I learn as much from the creative moment as my counterpart. So be mindful of your agenda and don’t sell yourself short, unless, of course, the creative moment wants you to.
