You are the spiritual Self. Be That

There is no time sequence in true spiritual development. You are spiritual here and now. Do not trap yourself in mental cages of planes of existence, degrees of growth, states of being, etc. Do not embrace these false limitations. You are the spiritual Self. Be That.

They say we need just enough ego not to step in front of an incoming bus. Did it ever occur to you that the experience many are hunting after—enlightenment—can actually be quite disorienting. It is literally an out-of-body experience and after we come back we need to create a new niche for ourselves, with little to no ambition, and with a dreamy eye perception of the world that makes some question our sanity. Eckhart Tolle reported that he spent a year living almost like a homeless just hanging out on park benches, trying to make sense of the new world he was experiencing.

Awakening is not a tsunami experience that washed away the entire structure of ‘I-perception’ as experienced in enlightenment, but more of an earth quake that did some serious structural damage to the ego. A transformative process is set in motion that aligns the so-called ‘real’ world with the spiritual world the awakened is able to perceive. Some are born with it, whereas for some like me it came later in life, but for everyone this disorienting process of creating a spiritual niche is necessary. I sent out a survey to some 30 long-standing spiritual friends, and one summed her glimpse of Oneness beautifully in the following way: “There was not one singular Awakening experience for me. I was born Awake to more than my ‘singular’ self and perpetually throughout my life have experienced mediumship, multi-dimensionality, lucid dreaming, visions, clairvoyance and clairaudience.”

When my Awakening started in 2007/2008 I had implicitly believed that the process of Awakening is a little bit like pregnancy, either you are, or you are not. I had to revise that limiting belief set in the meantime. Anyone who is spiritually curious is already initiated, and even those who aren’t interested in spirituality at all may just be a step away from a spiritual break-through. We are all One, and Spirit is ready to rush to anyone’s side when you knock on Her door. My favorite example in that direction is a client who approached me for a few talks just because his friends were spiritual and he wanted to have a better understanding what their journey is all about. As it turned out, within a short time he had a number of experiences that can only be described as mystical.

Ramana Maharshi puts it well. Oneness and Spirit is wherever we are. Sure, there is a little homework to do for everyone. Sure, a little more transformation might be ahead, or a few more lessons might be in store for us, but Awareness is always at our disposal here and now. You are the spiritual Self. Be That.
