Have you seen the Light recently?

There is a sea-saw process in our brain. People who have been abused or experienced abnormal stress are bound to encounter moments of brilliant mental clarity. A prime example of this was apostle Paul (Saul) who felt guilty over persecuting early days Christians and suddenly saw a brilliant light and fell off his horse in terror; that’s when the voice of Christ talked to him.

Magic mushrooms and other chemicals can have a similar effect on our brain; many Awakening quests start with these induced spiritual experiences. In my opinion it doesn’t matter much what launched this metaphysical experience, the more relevant question is how we can make this enlightened state the normal rather than the occasional occurrence.

I love the Zen wisdom, ‘chop wood and carry water before enlightenment; chop wood and carry water after enlightenment.’ If we run after these metaphysical experiences we are also not any different than anyone else who is running after the enjoyments in life. Like scientists our mission should be to reduce these sea-saw processes to have a true appreciation of the state of Grace.

How to get there? Meditation, exposure to serene energy, showing up in life just like everyone else, having an eye for the Oneness in life, feeling the love in our heart, being mindful of what’s going on within as well as grasping all our interactions as a mirror image of what’s happening inside; minimizing artificial stimulants such as coffee, alcohol or drugs. In short, to live a spiritual life.
