The Japanese have a saying that we have 3 faces, with the outside world, at home and the privacy in our being. While true, it occurred to me that this is in fact the opportunity for the spiritual break-through. At work I might be in a position of power or servitude. At home I might display traits my parents had or revolt against these memories. In solitude I may be different altogether.
Authenticity is more than truthful, it can mean that we are looking right through all these separate selfs. Looking for all the inconsistencies as we go through these life occurrences is the spiritual opportunity. There is no wrong or right, just the opportunity to simply be. If our face changes, it’s because our environment changes, but we have inner programs running or agendas to fulfill.
Spiritual living is mindfulness, the power to observe and ability to let go of everything artificial. Take a good look in the mirror, what face is it reflecting?
