Grandeur, not grandiosity

One perk of being a dad of a teenager is that I am invited to watch all Marvel movies. In one funny clip, Loki, the trickster brother of Thor faced the Hulk who was ready to smash him. Irritated, he perked up and demanded with authority, ‘enough, I am a god and will not be bullied by your kind …’ Well, it worked for a moment or two. The Hulk stopped and listened to what he had to say, but then continued to hammer him into the ground half a dozen times. Leaving Loki lie there on the ground half past dead, the Hulk added contemptuously, ‘puny god!’

We are gods, and we should declare the vision we want to manifest authoritatively. It’s just that we also need to acknowledge our human roots and should not tell life how to manifest our vision for us, otherwise we may end up in the dust just like Loki did in ‘The Avengers.’ ‘If the mountain doesn’t come to the prophet, the prophet needs to go to the mountain,’ is my favorite motto. Visualize your dreams and state them with authority, but then take a step back and see what goodies life has to offer for you. Grandeur is ours to claim, it’s just that life needs to make sure it doesn’t turn into grandiosity.
