Blissfully happy

When we try to satisfy our desires, we get more desires after satisfying one. Then we will be perpetually in birth-death-birth cycle. Trying to eliminate desire, by satisfying them is equivalent to put out the fire with petrol. As long as we try to satisfy our desires by enjoyment, the desires will become stronger and will keep growing. We cannot stop desires by reducing sensual pleasure. We can conquer them by understanding the source of the desires that is our mind. Ramana Maharshi

A woman once told me that she did renunciate sex with the help of a guru. After meeting her guru the sex drive in her just disappeared for good from one day to the next. I believed her. She seemed to be happy. However, my scientific mind revolts at the idea of depending on a guru, so Ramana Maharshi’s self inquiry was all I could work with:  spot the illusion and see how reality here and now trumps desire of any sort.

Love-making, professional success, material enjoyment of comfort, all of this is part of the holy now. It’s just that God brings these blessings into our life and we simply show up. The here now calls all the shots. Fulfillment is a feeling that just pops up one day and then it is impossible for anything outside the present moment to gain importance. Until then just keep asking, ‘who feels dissatisfied?’, ‘Who feels out of place?’

The bliss point awaits—embrace it!
