Look within and lose your self

Spirituality is not to be learned by flight from the world, or by running away from things, or by turning solitary and going apart from the world. Rather, we must learn an inner solitude wherever or with whomsoever we may be. We must learn to penetrate things and find God there.

 Meister Eckhart

The most powerful spiritual observation is, ‘as within, so without’. Following awakening it’s not that hard to find the divine spark in the outside world. We just follow the energy of the moment and it is so strong that it wows the mind and the conditionings we still carry around into silence. The harder part is the solitude, that when our own energies come out to play. As the saying goes, ‘an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.’ I find Meister Eckhart’s message to humanity uplifting. Go and change the world for the better, but do it with only one mindset, do it in order to let the world help you losing the ‘you’.

For all doers who aim to bring in the Light, a note of caution. In my experience a phase of solitude is part of the spiritual curriculum. As I said, it’s easy to see God’s play in the outside world after we have partially broken free. It’s another thing to become still to let the quiet inner Voice come to the fore, especially if the ‘me energy’ has decided to bring in the Light for others. So if you lose a job, get dumped by your partner or just find yourself with an unexplainable apathy, recognize the need for going within. Sometimes God’s advice is as simple as, ‘Just sit there and do, well, nothing!’
