Hit the gym mate!

It’s a nice feeling to look up in a mirror and conclude, “wow, you are fit again!” But then, whether we are fit or flabby, there are also these moments when we go about our daily business when we forget that there is a body behind all the doing. We just forget about our body and appearance, right?

I view our transition from perceiving a self-identity to enjoying the state of “no self” in the same way. Our frequency—I am sure one day we can measure this state shift in physical terms—adjusts and what we typically identify with, our consciousness as well as the subconscious, slips away.

Many spiritual quests start with the simple intention, “there gonna be a better way!” That’s typically when the Way appears. A high energy environment that allows the little me to slip away; a set of circumstances that wows our mind into silence. Alas, this state does not persist, and the hard work starts.

I never give any instructions of how to connect with the higher energies; from my limited perspective this is an act of Grace. What I do though is to observe, what I am thinking, what I am doing, how I feel, what’s going on around me and how the environment I am in responds to it. That’s mindfulness in action.

Many spiritual aspirants believe—and most teachers reinforce—in a cosmic reward system that whenever we put our best foot forward, we will be rewarded in time with the satori moment or the samadhi experience. This has not been my observation. The moments of Grace follow in all circumstances.

When looking in the mirror and seeing a flabby body, we can go and hit the gym. Likewise, we can live in the best of both worlds, putting our best foot forward and with the help of mindfulness and healing work towards a “sane ego”. Awakening and Grace will never go away, but the self will return.

Hit the gym, physically and metaphorically—conscious healing pays off.
