Did you ever read about a frog
who dreamed of being a king
and then became one?
Well, except for the names
and a few other changes,
if you talk about me,
the story is the same one.
But I got an emptiness deep inside,
and I've tried
but it won't let me go.
And I'm not a man who likes to swear
for I never cared
for the sound of being alone.
(I Am, I Said; Neil Diamond)
The ego is a life force. That’s not hard to see. Why did Madonna rise to stardom? She never was the greatest singer, and she doesn’t look so stunning either. No, it was an insatiable drive for success, and the universe bent to her will. The rest is history, or rather her story.
Prince, Elvis, George Michael, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Marlyn Monroe; do I need to go on? Isn’t it clear that the same inner imbalance that created the enormous drive for stardom claimed their creations a few decades later. The inner hole swallowed them.
Spirituality encourages us to connect with a different energy instead. Success and spirituality do not need to be in conflict. Lao-Tzu was essentially forced to write the Tao Te Ching and what a spiritual gem it has become. Eckhart Tolle is famous, hopefully without craving it.
We can do both, manifesting a fulfilling life, while allowing the inner balances to heal. We can have a transformation from the inner drives and aversions—the conscious game plans and subconscious programs and missions—to the higher energies. Our scheming and doing becomes being.
