The self is a friend for him
who masters himself by the Self;
but for him who is not self-mastered,
the self is the cruelest foe.
Bhagavad Gita
The Indian golden rule is a little like “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, only it asks to stand up to any selfishness and be guided by the higher knowledge of Oneness.
How to stand up to selfishness? How to let go of self altogether? The danger is that this “better” self is a projection, a fancy spiritual super ego. So, what to do? Well, isn’t it a magnificent experiment to find out?
Every action in conflict with Oneness will backfire, no matter how right the move appears to be on a personal level. From a higher energy perspective our personal identity doesn’t exist, so we choose what works for everyone.
We cannot “self-master” as the Gita suggest because the entity who masters is still an outgrowth of the illusionary personhood, benevolent as this person wants to be. The only solution is to open up to the higher energies.
The solution is stillness and sensitivity to energy. A serene mind can feel the love and be in tune of the flow. S (erenity) E (nergy) L (ove) F (low) is a dimension we can vibe ourselves into. Lose the self and be happy.
