Having drive can be a good thing. Perhaps we really know what we want. We go after it with zeal, maybe a relationship, or a mission; even if it is as mundane as just the desire to make money; to move up in life. We gain great insights in our daily struggle to get what we want. Wisdom is gained when the rubber meets the road so to speak.
Depression is the polar opposite of drive. We have run into the wall once too often. We don’t trust our instincts any longer. We have the suspicion that life conspires against us. Unable to move we sit on the couch depressed. Drive and depression go together because in depression it occurs to us that we have been running in a wrong direction.
Body, mind and world come as a package deal. The outer world reflects the inner. All external striving for something is misplaced because we already have everything we need on the inside. We can spot our misplaced craving in life’s feedback mechanism, and we can spot the inner flame while sitting depressed on the couch. Drive and depression are both wake-up calls.
There is an inner hole that is apparently too big to be filled, and there is an inner void that eats at us the moment we sit down. This apparent black hole begging us to conquer the outside and scaring us to face the inside is nothing but the call Home, distorted by our mistaken personal vision. Be with the feeling while running or sitting quietly. Magic happens there—see for your Self.
