When the crooked becomes straight

Osho told the story of the master who honored his departed master in a ceremony. The people who lived in the city where this master had lived became quite mad at him. “You have no business honoring him,” they said, “from what we recall he had expelled you at that time because he didn’t believe in you.” “You are quite right,” the stranger responded, “but it was because of him that I lived in seclusion for many years finding enlightenment by myself. It was because of him that I looked within and stopped bothering looking for other masters. He initiated my enlightenment, so I have every right to honor him in this ceremony.”

This story tells us the spiritual function life has, even our own interferences. All interactions matter, whether we perceive them with the right mind and an open heart, or are deluded about their spiritual significance. Life is a giant Law of Attraction that has ‘being, consciousness, bliss’ at its center. Just as in the case of the rejected disciple, life even makes the crooked straight when the intention is right and when we persevere in adversity and success. Ramana Maharshi stated, “No one succeeds without effort. Those who succeed owe their success to perseverance.” I am not saying we should accept the crooked. Instead, we can have an eye out for the healing opportunity.
