Someone asked in a spiritual community why the majority of the people here are women, and I replied, women are closer to their heart. Spirituality comes natural to them.
The mind strives outward, and while it is not right to generalize, most men are mind-driven; they strive to get somewhere. Striving for enlightenment is a paradox. We return home by turning inwards instead.
Where does that leave us? The mind attempts to go boldly where no man has gone before, so just observe the drive. It took me a while to realize that even the spiritual quest is bypassing as we look outwards.
The mind is a bunch of programs created by thought, memory and conditioning. The strive comes from evolutionary necessity and the recycled pain-body of the past. Mindfulness takes the wind out of its sails.
Ramana Maharshi once said that the mind originates in the heart. That’s where the center of our being is. Returning to the center is really not so hard once we recognize the mind’s programming. Find love within.
