We are the world

You are not the main character in the play.

You are one of many characters.

Each has a role to play.

This realization is the first step toward the unity that is,

always was and always will be.

I was on my way to a monthly meeting with the Gurdjieff group in Cambridge, MA. Parking is always an issue on Harvard square and somehow I wasn’t aligned with the universe this time around and all the spots I usually park on were taken. So I rode to the far off Cambridge Public library where I do tend to find parking, and sure, one spot magically opened up. However, my parking app was somehow not working and the three quarters I had in the pocket wouldn’t have covered the necessary time span. I looked at the meter next to me and magically, one and a half hours were on it. I am not sure what happened but the driver who was parking on it gestured to me that he was leaving. Patiently I was sitting in my car but he really took a long time to leave and time was running out as I still had quite a distance to cover before the meeting started. The problem was that he was waiting for his wife and baby and she was very particular about strapping her baby into the child seat. Eventually they did leave and I claimed their spot and ran to the meeting. Then the unexpected happen, I bumped into the group organizer who was somehow headed in the wrong direction. She had parked her car and got lost so I redirected her and we both walk over. “I can stop running now,” I said laughingly to her, “this meeting will not start without you!”

Later it occurred to me what it all took to arrange our meeting at that particular spot. The missed parking spot where I normally park, the opening of the parking spot with the exact meter money to park, and even the delay to strap the baby in was necessary to get me to be late enough, and distant enough from the venue to bump into the group organizer and help her find her destination. We are the world. The upside surprise, the downside surprise, the helper, the interference. We are part of Oneness and if we face it openly and without resistance, with good intention and compassion, magic tends to happen. Try this perspective today and see what happens.
