Spiritual teachers often describe the non-personal, all-inclusive Awareness as the depth of the ocean and contrast the idiosyncratic self as the wave that temporarily loses sight of the fact that it is part of the whole.
The risk is to view Awareness as something to appeal to, or to reach out to or wait for, and as such becomes another detrimental concept that only cements the separation. Instead, we should zoom into the wave and engage with it like a bullterrier until this energy exhausts itself and crashes back into the ocean of bliss.
J. Krishnamurti once said we should hold the fear of separation like a jewel in our hands with the knowledge that deep-diving into it may give us the answers we are looking for.
