Questioner: How did the ego arise?
Ramana Maharshi: The ego is not—otherwise, do you admit of two selves?
We finally let go of our nanny/housekeeper after 13 years now that both boys are in college. Now I do the cooking and laundry myself. Is it a burden? No. Is is a pleasure? I can’t say that it is. It just is!
I had a satori moment this week. I was in the state of Awareness, just onlooking on self and the world when a psychological thought popped up. I saw a flame of fire in my head, and it fizzled into nowhere.
I ask you? Aren’t we enlightened when we go after our daily work just because it needs to get done? Do we really have any thoughts? We just do what needs to get done and when the work is finished, we forget about it.
It’s strange to have two selves, isn’t it? The quest is finished when the psychological thought arises, but we have no interest in jumping on the train. It turns out that we are surrounded by the Light all the time. We just need to look.
