My Spiritual Teacher

 To meet a true teacher,

to recognize them,

and to surrender oneself in trust and devotion —

this is the greatest blessing one can receive in a lifetime.

 

I have been blessed to meet Teacher Suzhen Liu

and to offer myself as her student.

The journey has not been smooth —

I have doubted, grown impatient, left, and returned.

Yet I am grateful that I never gave up,

and even more grateful for her patience, her waiting,

and her unwavering presence.

 

In recent years, through the grace of online teachings,

I have finally had the chance to learn directly from her.

Gradually, I came to see —

this process is like two iPhones syncing.

If I try to learn from many teachers at once,

the connection falters,

the synchronization fails.

 

Through translating her speeches and notes, online courses,

and shared learning within the group,

I have been able to give my whole heart

to following her teachings.

And in that devotion,

I have begun to experience the beauty

of truly being in sync with her.

 

What is the gift of being in sync with one’s teacher?

It is to meet the challenges of daily life as she does —

with calm, clarity, and grace —

and to savor life’s simple moments with the same joy.

Once, I could not have imagined such a thing.

 

I used to be anxious, impatient,

resentful, and self-centered.

But through her guidance,

these patterns have slowly been washed away.

Now, I live more fully in each moment —

present in every challenge,

alive in every breath.

 

Life has become sweet and vibrant,

rich and deeply fulfilling.

My heart overflows with gratitude

for my teacher’s guidance and her boundless compassion.
