Who am I?

 The inherent nature of mind

is to process thought;

to attempt the cessation of thought

goes against what is natural.

The goal, therefore,

is not the cessation of thought;

the goal is cessation of identification with thought.

(Wu Hsin)

The non-duality branch of spirituality is where all the smart people gravitate to. Can there be such a thing a being spiritually smart? In Wu Hsin’s non-identification plea, who is the one who doesn’t identify with thought? In Ramana Maharshi’s self inquiry method, the object of asking “Who Am I?” is not to get an answer but to dissolve the questioner!

The paucity of thought is the opportunity; the absence of a self image and the observer is the state we are after. Too hard to achieve? Keep asking, “who am I?”
