The insight that disrobes the ego

The three temptations of Jesus were all about power: turning stone to bread, the power of flying, and using his metaphysical powers for gaining political power. The story of the 3 temptations—the supposed end of the ego reign—is an insight. The conditioned programs of the past lose their powers over us once we understand their futility.

The thought-feeling energy that pops to the surface and gets our attention is not the problem, our belief in it is. It is the insight that takes the belief out of the thought-feeling energy. Once understood it is a mere blast from the past—or the anticipated future—that comes and goes because we have no interest in jumping on the train.

What do we do if there are some areas where this conditioned energy can’t be shaken off. When you truly observe what is going on, your whole life likely centers around this theme. It’s just that the liberating insight has not yet taken place to let go of it. As within so without. Life is simply here to remind us to take notice, to engage and to let go.
