I am what I am, but what I am need not run events

I had a strange dream last night. A friend addressed me excitedly, “There is one thing I learned from you, I am the one I am!” A bit puzzled I woke up this morning, what exactly is the meaning of this?

I thank my dream friend for reminding me of this apparent truism, we are who we are. Thoughts, feelings—the experienced “me” more generally—is what it is. We shouldn’t try to change it; just be aware of its presence.

This morning while I was writing this post a yellow butterfly stopped by. It’s still sitting on a branch above me. Have you noticed that when we get lost in nature, the “me” is not? The story of “me” doesn’t need to run our life.
