When the boys were little, we used these shopping cards with toy cars attached. Whenever we turned the corner, they adjusted the wheels with intensity and delight and probably figured that they were in the driving seat. Our earthly existence is just like that. We feel we are separate. We adjust in order to manifest the life we are after, but is our experienced personhood perhaps as illusionary as this toy shopping car?
Rupert Spira often makes this point by referring to the actor John Smith who temporarily gets lost in his King Lear performance. “Enlightenment” to him is Self-realization when we awaken to this illusionary character. Realizing that we are part of this Oneness is really not hard. A friend reaches out. I don’t know if the conversation will be productive or problematic. Our joint energy takes us to places that are completely out of my control.
Our body-mind-world (BMW) are part of this Oneness. We can turn the wheels as we like, but the ride is so much smoother and purposeful when we let the “system” do the steering. Sure, we can aim to become more productive, more loving, wiser, but if the character is fictional, wouldn’t it be better to just “fall” into the Self-driving mode. Get your self out of the Way is the mandate I pretty much conclude every post with. Enjoy the ride!
