What’s missing at this moment?

"There is no greater mystery than this,

that we keep seeking reality

though we are reality.

How ridiculous!

A day will dawn when you will

laugh at all your past efforts.

What you realize on the day you laugh

is also here and now."

Ramana Maharshi

I was pulling into the driveway on a beautiful September Sunday morning in New England and got mesmerized by the beauty of the scene, bushes and trees swaying in the wind with a brilliant sun streaming down. I asked myself, what could possibly be missing this moment and found absolutely nothing! Will this moment be followed sometime by another when something appears amiss? Likely, but right here and now everything is perfect. That’s what the folks who hunt after enlightenment do not get. It’s another subconscious craving just as finding the right partner, the right mission, the right body or financial wealth is. All of this is meaningless in the here and now.

There is really only one question to ask, “what’s missing at the present moment?” While mostly rhetorical, occasionally we have to dig a little to get to the bottom it.
