Addressing the elephant in the room

Hope you enjoyed Thanksgiving and the many Christmas meals. You probably observed that with colder weather and less light our exercise commitment also slipped a little. Well, then you also know what comes next, the commitment to lose weight in the next year! Why is it so hard to lose weight for some, work less or more, to eat better or stop drinking and smoking, etc.? There is an inner energy interference for most of us that needs addressing, confronting and letting go of.

Bringing spirituality into one’s life is not hard, it’s almost natural. Yet, a complete opening to these higher energies is a lot harder. There is always a point when we start bumping into an unmovable object. The teachers always make it sound so easy but hardly anyone addresses the elephant in the room, the one citadel of the ego fortress that is heavily defended. What is it for you, romantic love, name and fame, money, knowledge, body? The list of possibilities is seemingly endless.

You always can tell if someone had a breakthrough by the lightness of her being, just as you can spot the equanimity of my mind by the pounds I am carrying around. A big step towards getting to the breakthrough is addressing the elephant in the room. Life is a perfect mirror for us. It appears to reflect who we think we are, even though even this stubbornly rigid appearance of an interference can be removed in a heartbeat when we address the elephant in the room.

There is an expression in Hindi— “hathi mere sathi”—the elephant is my friend. Likewise, befriend the elephant in the room and watch him exit gently and the breakthrough shall speak for itself.
