The physicist David Bohm was inspired by his decade-long conversations with J. Krishnamurti and summed up his insights in the book “Thought as a System” in which he argued that there is a fundamental flaw in our “I-perception” which has been created by thought and is now subconsciously defended by thought, overlooking the fact that we are part of Oneness instead.
A Course in Miracles is a channeled book of Christ’s voice by the psychologist Helen Schucman. It essentially starts on the same premise that the “I” is an impostor, and that we can open ourselves up to the world of miracles (the world of Oneness in David Bohm’s case) when we start observing what is going on, when we open up to the healing power of the Holy Spirit and have faith in Christ.
The challenge of an idiosyncratic spiritual path is to live in this world of Oneness—free of the illusionary self identification—without needing an external help such as Christ, Buddha or Krishna. Alas, conscious insight is not good enough. We have to get the vast terrain of subconscious thinking to open up to the world of Oneness without interfering. Can the Holy Spirit—the glue connecting the world of Oneness with the reality of illusionary thought and self identity—connect us with the here and now?
The power of J. Krishnamurti’s philosophy is that he did not require a Holy Spirit or an ascended master to get to Oneness. He started in Oneness—choice-less awareness—but he also couldn’t tell others how to get “there.” Awakening is a communication with the Holy Spirit. It’s empirical to see meaningful number sequences, potential oneness in life’s events, meaningful conversations and memories. I wouldn’t appeal to a Holy Spirit or an ascended master as it risks projection, but I wouldn’t ignore “a world of Oneness” expressed in symbols we understand either when it stares in our face.
We are in a “do-it-yourself” ascension phase. The power of now works on the inside as well as the outside. Religion is not my cup of tea, but ignoring channeled wisdom in our desire to be scientific is also a waste. Be pure, be true and let Oneness speak for itself.
