How Can a Proverb Have it so Wrong?

The devil lies in the detail. Do you know this proverb? I never thought much about it, but it made intuitive sense to me given that I happen to be a top-down thinker rather than someone who likes to bother with details. However, the other day an insight struck me. Au contraire! The devil lies in our fantasies, the stuff we think we need to accomplish, or to conquer. It is then that the Tao creates the "reality", the day to day necessities to get our plan implemented. Along the Tao you will, moment by moment, be offered the opportunity to choose love. And if you happen to make a misstep a new obstacle will face you with the gentle message attached, choose again brother. No my friend, the Holy Spirit hides in the detail, not the devil.
