Grow out of It

What feeling do you associate with the phrase "grow out of it"? It came to me this morning and it suddenly feels to me a little like you can literally have your cake and eat it too. So many of the struggles of the spiritual path traveler are about renunciation, i.e. about realizing that certain desires that we have are simply not consistent with the direction of our spiritual path. But why is that? Do you really think that the Force who has created this rapidly expanding Universe really cares whether you drive your BMW, have mind-blowing sex, get the promotion or job you dream of, etc?  No, the struggle is that by running after the things you want, you give power to the dark force inside of you that likes to run in the opposite direction of your spiritual path.

This doesn't have to be that way. If you really go to the root of your desires in a psychoanalytical way you will be able to recognize the demon behind it. But once he is out in the open the battle almost over. Go after your egotistic dreams while being aware of this cancerous dark force. If you do it like that you can literally grow out of it. If the demon is out in the open he will get pacified as you get what you want. How is this as a 2011 resolution, advance on your spiritual path by getting what you really care about.
