God is a Means as well as End.
(A Course in Miracles)
A spiritual traveler is a problem solver and a healer - always centered in the Self, while pursuing a meaningful goal, whatever that might be for us personally: getting a good education, having an inspiring job, raising a family, building a spiritual network, or simply having meaningful connections in our community. We work to express ourselves and a along the Way we always discover our creative outlets to nourish our soul as well. Yet, none of these aims are ends in themselves. The Tao reminds us constantly, what really matters is that God flows through us moment by moment - it doesn't matter in what capacity that happens to be.
Everyone perceives the world a little differently and our starting points differ so we can never really evaluate the mission others are on unless we walk in their shoes. Consequently, no one should be criticized for being on a treasure hunt: the Harvard education, the trophy spouse, the promotion, the most amazing body, the multi-million mansion, the lust for power and the status. And no one but us can say what is the right thing to do. Please don't get upset if you have started a spiritual path with best intensions only to wake up to the fact that your ego still has some unfinished business ahead. The good news is, you can always put your mission in God's service. A spiritual path is the means to burning your drive while getting God's mission implemented at the same time.
Awakening is the realization that no matter what we do, no matter where we go, God's mission is always nearby. Everything we ever wanted we have today, so nothing really seems that important any longer. But you can will yourself to that state, it has to come to you. Until that blessed day, let life be the means to get you there. Perhaps when you have children, or when you meet your soul partner; perhaps at work or within your community your holy mission will suddenly dawn on you. Finding God's will is really easy; you are here to serve others just as the situation demands it. When you recognize that you are the means to serving God's Will you suddenly know what true bliss and freedom is.
