Can We really Have it All?

Some people live for the fortune.
Some people live just for the fame.
Some people live for the power, yeah.
Some people live just to play the game.
Some people think that the physical things define what's within.
And I've been there before, and that life's a bore,
so full of the superficial
. (Alicia Keys, If I Ain't Got You)

What do you want? Do you want to have a good life? Do you just want to avoid the pain? Or are you craving fortune, fame, power, beauty and sex just as in Alicia's song? Or, given that this is a spiritual blog, is all you ever wanted to be with your soul partner and with GOD?

What does our soul long for? Is it true love and family, a dream career, wealth, or all of the above? It is so easy to be critical of all these longings, yet, we are here on the blue planet to express ourselves. What story do we want to write for ourselves? What authentic needs do we need to fulfill in order to be really happy? Perhaps we should think of this world as our canvas to express ourselves.

There is a time and place to enjoy fortune. There is an opportunity to be known and admired by others. There is a time to exert authentic power, and there is a time for steamy sex and true love. But always, and always, there is a metaphysical connection to GOD at our disposal. Yes, we can have it all if we keep one eye on fulfilling our soul longings and the other on GOD's extended HAND. Like a spiral, we circle closer and closer to GOD while leaving behind all the other longings that we have outgrown and outlived.

Eventually there is a stage in our spiritual development when we can exclaim together with Alicia:
Hand me the world on a silver platter
and what good would it be
with no one to share, with no one who truly cares for me?
Some people want it all
but I don't want nothing at all
if I ain't got YOU
(Alicia Keys, If I Ain't Got You)
